Rumor has it that iPhone 7 might come with two new features namely a virtual keyboard and 3D camera. This news came to the forefront when Apple was given a patent regarding the virtual keyboard and 3D camera by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
One of the patent has been given the name ‘Camera accessory for angled camera viewing’. According to this technology an angled camera will remain installed within the phone that will help in creating a virtual keyboard which can be used by the typing along with the physical keyboard. The camera is going to use reflectors for receiving light and thereafter create the virtual image.
The angled accessory that will be fixed with the camera in such a way so that it can record things in a manner that camera mounted in right angle cannot record. Therefore, the gadget will be able to capture images in a ‘off axis direction’ and record it.
Along with that another patent was received in the month of February, 2015 by Apple called ‘Virtual Keyboard for a Non Tactile Three Dimensional User Interface’. In this patent a new technology has been developed by Apple whereby a 3D device would be installed in the camera and it will have the capability to recognize the finger movement of the users and thus allow them to type in air.
Therefore, if this technology is integrated in iPhone 7, then a device would be attached to the built in camera of the phone that will have the capability of creating a virtual keyboard on any surface for the users. Inclusion of this would mean that iPhone users will have an excess input device along with the physical one.
Apple has shown interest in developing 3D images from a long time. This was proved when she took over the renowned 3D sensor company PrimeSense in 2013. However, we must keep in mind that Apple keeps filing patents time and again and we are not really sure whether these new technologies will be integrated in the next generation smartphone or not. But let’s be optimistic and rest assured that if not in the next generation iPhone, it is going to make its way soon.
