Free patents online offers the perfect description for “Mirror Tilt Actuation”. It states that the embodiments feature an assembly with zoom lens and image sensor with many lenses that are movable and have the arrangement to move each separately. In few other embodiments, some moveable lenses have optical axis while some have mirror assembly along with foldable optics arrangement through which the light would pass through. The mirror assembly would help in folding the light from the first lens’ optical axis to enable it to pass through multiple lenses. In addition, the assembly of mirror plus lens also features an actuator that can tilt the mirror.
Based on the application for patent, the latest camera would have special lens element at the exterior which would focus the light ray on the mirror. It would deflect the rays of the image to other lens set which is similar to the periscope used in submarines. The final image that the user would see is the one that is optically stabilized. As no other mobile phone maker has used the tilting technology, Apple would be the first one to use the advanced camera on its iPhone 7.
